Hola! I’m Jamie.
Miami native, first-generation Cuban-American, and the founder, recipe developer, and food photographer behind A Sassy Spoon.
Growing up, I loved watching Mami make Cuban food from scratch for the whole family using her favorite measurement of choice – un poquito (translation: “a little bit”). As a result, I began developing my own recipes inspired by my rich Cuban heritage.

✅ Experience
I’ve always felt like Cuban food was underrepresented and not as popular as its Latin counterparts. As a first-generation Cuban-American, I feel the need to keep my Cuban heritage alive in the best way I know how — through food.
This is why, in 2016, I created A Sassy Spoon to showcase all the tried & true Cuban recipes I grew up enjoying, along with other comfort food recipes that I love! For anyone who misses Abuela’s cooking, craves Cuban comfort food, or even if you’ve never tried Cuban food, I’m so glad you’re here.
When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll probably find me enjoying un cafecito with friends & family, traveling the world, and talking (and laughing) way too loud, as Cubans do. Life’s too short not to enjoy delicious comfort food. Thank you for joining me in celebrating my love for Cuban cuisine!

✨ Fun Facts
- My favorite Cuban dish (at least for now)? Vaca frita con congri y maduros!
- Every time I go to the nail salon, I stop at the Cuban bakery next door for a box of guava pastelitos. #onbrand 😂
- The name A Sassy Spoon originated from being called una picará (“sassy”) as a kid, my love of alliteration, and my habit of collecting ceramic spoons while traveling.
