Boozy Dark Chocolate Cupcakes

Deliciously moist and rich, dark chocolate cupcakes topped with smooth buttercream frosting and a pipette of chocolate liqueur!

Chocolate lovers, raise your hands! Booze lovers, pay attention! These boozy dark chocolate cupcakes are here to save the day.

To be honest, I don’t even like cake that much. I KNOW RIGHT. WHO AM I?! But really… unless it’s ice cream cake, I don’t really care for it. I LOVE ice cream cake! I mean, I love ice cream too. Who doesn’t love ice cream?!

I digress.

While I may not be wild about cake, when I see a cupcake, I eat the whole thing. Weird huh? It’s still cake! But I don’t know, I feel like cupcakes are just so cute and small.

These boozy dark chocolate cupcakes are definitely the definition of “good things come in small packages”.

They are rich, moist, and chocolatey. The buttercream – smooth and creamy. Plus, hello chocolate liqueur! Can’t go wrong with a little boozy boost. If you can’t find chocolate liqueur, you can also use hazelnut liqueur or Irish cream liqueur. You can also omit the alcohol altogether but I mean, WHY. Don’t do it!

I’ve been making these dark chocolate cupcakes with buttercream for years. And now I just took them next level. Please make them soon and tell me how much you LOVE them! Cuz you will. ;)

Don’t forget to buy the pipettes!

Servings: 12 cupcakes
Author: Jamie Silva
Ingredients
Dark Chocolate Cupcakes
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons chocolate liqueur divided
Buttercream Frosting
  • 3 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • sugar sprinkles optional
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder and salt. Set aside. In another bowl, mix butter and sugar until fluffy. Add one egg at a time then stir in vanilla and 1 tablespoon of chocolate liqueur.

  3. Add the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Fill each cupcake liner 3/4 of the way with batter. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the toothpick comes out clean.

  4. While the cupcakes are baking, make the buttercream by mixing confectioner's sugar, softened butter, vanilla extract and heavy whipping cream in a bowl until desired consistency.

  5. Once cupcakes have cooled to room temperature, frost each cupcake with buttercream, add sugar sprinkles (optional), and a pipette of chocolate liqueur to each one. Serve and enjoy!

I hope you make them and LOVE them!
